naap was organized to:

• Establish educational standards for psychoanalytic training institutes seeking accreditation
• Examine psychoanalytic training institutes to determine whether they have met the standards
• Establish the qualifications of individuals for membership in NAAP, grant membership to individuals who have met the standards, and publish a National Registry of members in good standing
• Elevate the standards of graduate education in psychoanalysis
• Work toward the recognition of psychoanalysis as a separate profession
• Serve a diverse population in the most professional way possible.
