Katherine Rabinowitz, BA, MA I have worked successfully for over ten years helping patients unravel the conflicts that get in the way of their achieving what they want in life. Many patients say they feel heard and understood for the first time. While my practice is located in Greenwich Village, I work with people from all over the New York metropolitan area.

Helping people feel better and achieve what they want requires the ability to foster an environment where it feels safe enough to talk about what's really troubling you. It's important for the therapist to listen and understand in a non-judgmental, empathic, yet perceptive and insightful way. Change is hard. It's normal to be stuck in patterns that no longer serve you well, and not know how to change them. It's normal to be anxious and depressed in a difficult world where the future is uncertain. It's also normal to have conflicting feelings about people, love, work, play, life. My training is psychoanalytic (10 years), and my approach is flexible and interactive. In therapy we try to understand how you came to be the person you are today, what parts of you no longer fit your image of who you want to be, what you might like to cultivate instead, and how to get there. There is no magic wand, but people who are committed to the process can usually make significant strides in reasonable periods of time, and feel relief just by being able to talk openly. I work with people from all over the New York metropolitan area. My hours are flexible - morning, afternoon and evening hours, sliding scale fees, reduced fee for psychoanalysis.
